Hey Sweeties!

Hope you all had a marvelous week. Mine was full of soul searching as I’m still struggling a bit with how this blog fits into my overall career plans. After much ringing of hands and gnashing of teeth, I think I’ve settled on what will make me happiest right now. Instead of killing myself to try to turn this blog into a business, I’m going to just accept it for what it really is: a fantastic little hobby that has netted me some amazing friends and some truly exciting writing gigs. And that’s great.

So, what that means for now is that I’m going to be focusing a lot more on writing for outside outlets to make money, and I’ve also decided to stop making videos. As much fun as the videos were to make, I never really felt like I was able to take the time to really get good at making them, so instead of half-assing writing and video making at the same time, I’m going to pour myself into full-assing writing. I’m also going back to a three times a week posting schedule, which still gives me lots of time for the bill paying gigs I desperately need.

I’ve also decided to close up the Indie Game Gang. Maybe I’ll be able to go back to it at some point in the future, but for right now I just don’t have the time to make it what it should be. Thanks to everyone who’s participated up to this point, I’m sorry I’ve let you down.

That said, I do have a fantastic idea for an info product that I’m hoping to get started on soon, and I’ll be sending out the first Gamerwife newsletter this weekend (you can subscribe below). So stay tuned for that.

Gimme Gimme Gimme

Sounds like Studio Ghibli is actually kind of a shitty place to work.

Did y’all see that fantastic post by Renae De Liz’s about de-objectifying female comic book characters? Now let’s apply it to games.

Hell, you can make the changes yourself like modder girlplaysgame.

Or, just go back to playing games for self care.

And finally, the aquamarine Bulbasaur planter of your dreams.

HA that This Is Fine plush is excellent!! Also, I 100% need those Bulbasaur planters in my life. I just got a commission payment and I do believe I’ll be treating myself.

I think your focus on full ass writing is a great one. And I’m glad you’ve made some peace with your blog! I’ve come to a similar conclusion over this year. I really do not enjoy attempting to monetize my blog. I love blogging, as a hobby and an outlet, but not as a career, or even attempted side income. It’s much more freeing to be able to just write about whatever the fuck I want. I hope you continue to enjoy it, and I look forward to your first newsletter coming out!

Do it!!! I’m surprised how obsessed I am with all things Pokemon now because of Pokemon Go. I’ve never played a Pokemon game before (I know), but I’m seriously getting obsessed. I think my favourite Pokemon right now is Nidoran, but mostly because they remind me of my favourite kaiju, Baragon.

Thanks, Natalie. And I feel bad about quitting on IGG, but I’m sure I’ll find time for it again at some point.

I watched a studio ghibli doco (maybe they one they reference in the article) and it seemed like an awful place to work, I always imagined animation a really tedious job but then to have time pressures and be stuck in your office till odd hours, sounds nightmare-ish! That bulbasaur on the other hand is so so cute!

Apparently most Japanese studios are like this, but yeah, not my idea of a fun place to work.

I mean, apparently most animation studios in Japan are like this, it just kind of crushes the idea that a lot of us in N.A. have about how whimsical output must mean a whimsical place to work.
