If you are anything like me, you spend a lot of time staring at screens. Reading blogs on my laptop. Browsing Pinterest on my tablet. Checking Facebook and Twitter on my phone. And of course, binging on Netflix on our giant flat screen TV.
And again, if you’re like me, your eyes (and your brain) are probably paying the price of absorbing all that nasty blue light. Side effects like trouble sleeping and eyestrain are well documented, but aside from shunning technology all together, what can be done to prevent computer vision syndrome?
Computer glasses are the obvious answer, but until recently that meant wearing horrid yellow wrap around shades or shelling out hundreds of dollars for custom glasses from an optometrist. So, imagine my delight when Phonetic Eyewear contacted me about trying out their crazy stylish and affordable computer glasses.
Phonetic has dozens of styles to choose from, all very fashion forward and under $100, even with a prescription. Made of durable plastic, Phonetic lenses have a special coating that reflects and absorbs blue light to protect your peepers, as well as a hard coat to prevent scratches and smudges.
Ordering my glasses couldn’t have been easier. I just logged onto the Phonetic Eyewear website, picked my frames (I went with Abby) and away we went. They arrived less than a week later, complete with a soft case and cleaning cloth.
I am absolutely smitten with them (as is Rick, rawrrr). I can’t get over how stylish and comfortable they are. In fact, I often find myself wearing them even when I’m not in front of a screen. The yellow tint to the lenses is very subtle, usually only noticeable at very specific angles. I receive heaps of compliments every time I wear them, and I definitely notice a difference in how my eyes feel at the end of the day.
They’re definitely a step up from the usual sort of gaming glasses I see advertised at places like PAX and won’t make you look like some sort of alien bug monster. So much cuter for streaming, no?
