Wow. I know I’m always saying it’s been a busy week at Gamerwife headquarters, but this week really has been busy. First up I had guest posts show up on The Cat, You and Us (thanks again, Dani & Damaris) and the equally excellent (but for totally different reasons) Pixelkin. I also launched another awesome video game giveaway, this time with Big Fish Games. Entry is open until the 22nd, so what are you waiting for?!

I also had a great time at the official Mercenary Kings Launch Party on Thursday at Foonzo. Not sure if I’ll do a full post on that yet, but I’ll try to share some photos on the social medias for those of you following me there.

Since we just got half of our unusually large tax return this week, this weekend will probably involve finally buying a PS4 and then playing ALL OF THE GAMES! Are there any PSN games I should download first? I’ve already picked out Child Of Light and Contrast for immediate acquisition (yes, I’m aware you can already get them on Steam/PS3/etc.), but I’d love your suggestions.

Link time!

I’m totally in love with these folk music covers of classic Square Enix tunes by The World Is Square. via James Pr1mate

This abridged edition of The Console Wars book that came out on Wednesday is seriously addictive reading. I’m listening to the full book on Audible, and will be buying a hard copy this weekend.

How do you go from 10% ladies in Computer Science to 40%? Mute the jocks, tweak course names & make things practical.

This post on moms & video games is both surprising and sweet.

Lessons in parenting, with a geeky persepctive.

Glow in the dark space knickers!!!!!!!

These oral history game development articles that Polygon does are fantastic. The one on Street Fighter 2 is particularly compelling.

Are there lessons for video games in hip hop?

Beautiful 8-bit inspired watercolours.

And finally, games, like all art and entertainment, are inherently political. Accept it, or suffer a Tomodachi Life style backlash.

oh i loved reading the “what our moms think about video games”. i loved when they asked their moms to describe what they do. 🙂 when i first started to work in non-profit i asked my dad what he thought i did and he paused and said.. i don’t know… go to protests and rallies all the time? i laughed out loud 🙂 and i loved how the geek parent called his baby Level 1 Human. Oh that was a good. Hope to steal that one day 🙂 have a great weekend, Mariko!

I’m also planning on getting a PS4 coming up here soon! Gotta save gotta save! My PS3 is my most precious tech possession and I feel I wouldn’t regret an upgrade at all! Child of Light is what I’m looking at as well, but I’ll have to have a look through a PS4’s PSN Shop before I could really say what else is a “must-get” for me!

Also, those watercolor paintings are GORGEOUS! Wow!

How was your weekend? Did you guys finally bought a ps4? 😉 I worked at a department from my Computer Science University for a couple of years, where one of the main issues (or should I say concerns?) was to increase the female computer majors. We prepared contests, blogs run by female students and school talks. It was not very successful, I should send your link to my old boss because it seems a better approach.

Cool. Yes, please send that article around. The bit about encouraging diverse voices in in-class discussions was particularly interesting. And yes, we got our PS4. Rick has already finished Infamous: Second Son and I am struggling my way through Child of Light. A little disappointed that there’s no YouTube integration… yet.

That street fighter article was so fun!
That was MY GAME! Capcom versus games will always be a favorite of mine (especially. SSF2 & Darkstalkers ).
And I’m loving those 8-bit watercolors!
