I was introduced to CHOPSQUARES by a @mrghostyx tweet some weeks ago. As soon as I checked out the website I knew it was something that Rick and I had to check out together. As you might know, I’m a huge fan of indie arcade style games, especially when they are simple enough for a noob like me to pick-up.
In CHOPSQUARES, you play as either a blue or a red square with a sword on its head. It’s a two person combat game for PC with both players using the keyboard. Matches are timed, but only take 15 seconds. Three matches wins a game.
Because the swords are so heavy, your square has a tendency to topple over when it gets moving which can be rather hazardous. There is a certain technique to it, as the action slows down the closer you get to tagging your opponent, but some of the best victories (for me, anyways) came from falling in exactly the right direction at the right time. But maybe that’s why Rick bested me at every turn.
In addition to fast and furious action, I also loved that every match ends with some sort of hilarious (if grammatically challenged) message. Which was good, because I’m pretty sure I saw all of the negative ones.
Oh, and did I mention that it’s only $2? Seriously. Play it!
