One place Rick and I have been spending more and more time lately is a very cool pub in the Latin Quarter called Randolph Pub Ludique. For my non-bilingual readers, “ludique” means “fun” or “play” but it’s often used to describe board game playing, and that’s exactly what Randolph is all about.
The place is STACKED with high-end board games. And I mean STACKED. Seriously, they have like 1,000 games in stock right now and they’re always adding more. And not only do they have tons of games, they have a whole staff of people whose job it is to explain how to play the games. Or recommend games for you. All you need to do is tell them how many people are playing, what kind of game you’re looking for and they’ll bring over something to try out.
The place is fully licensed, but they do have a huge range of non-alcoholic beverages for teetotalers and minors. They also serve some seriously yummy sandwiches and their homemade quiche is divine. I highly recommend the bacon cheddar one if they have it in stock (it tends to sell out). Hours are from 4:00 PM – 1:00 AM during the week, 4:00 PM – 2:00 AM on Fridays and 12:00 PM – 1:00 AM or 2:00 AM on Saturdays and Sundays respectively.
There is a $5 cover, but considering they have people teaching you how to play and answering questions, there’s no time limit and it’s a great way to test out high end board games that can run you as much as $75 a pop, it’s a tremendous value.
