What I’m Looking Forward to at E3 2011

In anticipation of my unemployment enabled E3 live tweet marathon on Monday, here’s a quick rundown of some of the stuff I’m looking forward to.

Sadly, no Konami craziness to look forward to this year as they opted to post a pre-recorded mega presentation on Friday instead of risking another viral video bonanza like last year’s press conference (see here for reference). But the pre-E3 conference did include some classic Japanese awkwardness, such as Hideo Kojima’s bizarre voice dub and this piece of amazing WTF.

Details on Epic Tomb Raider Reboot
As a touchstone for gamers of my generation, it seemed inevitable that a reboot was gonna happen and all I gotta say is NEW LARA CROFT IS HAAAAWT. The cinematic trailer is pretty impressive, but I’m waiting for details on gameplay before I make up my mind on this one.

Star Trek Co-op
Set in the reboot universe and powered by Bad Robot and Digital Extremes, you get to play both Kirk and Spock in awesome co-op action. Slash fiction romances pending.

Nathan Drake
Although my non-existent shooter skills meant I was merely a spectator for Uncharted 1 & 2, the lure of some co-op action added to the stunning cinematic feel this series is known for might just drag me into the driver’s seat.

Aliens co-op
Set in the same universe as James Cameron’s action heavy Aliens, Aliens: Colonial Marines boasts co-op action and terrifying aliens. Consider me intrigued.

Batman sandbox with CATWOMAN as a playable character
Rick might not have finished Batman: Arkham Asylum yet, but it was just too much fun to watch and seemed to get the dark knight just right. A sandbox sequel with Catwoman as a playable character might just mean I’ll be playing on my own.

And last, but certainly not least, MASS EFFECT 3!!!!!
While I’ve never been able to play these games, I’ve always loved watching Rick play. The gorgeous graphics, great soundtrack, strong storyline and great writing, not to mention FemShep, mean that this is probably going to be my most anticipated game of 2012. BioWare’s final entry in their sci-fi opus promises to be nothing short of epic.
